Durability
Composite decking is highly durable and resistant to rot, decay, splintering, and insect damage, making it a long-lasting option for outdoor use. Unlike wood decking, which requires regular maintenance such as staining, sealing, and painting to protect against moisture and UV damage, composite decking is virtually maintenance-free and retains its appearance and structural integrity for many years.
Low Maintenance
Composite decking requires minimal maintenance compared to wood decking, as it does not need to be stained, sealed, or painted to maintain its beauty and performance. Simply cleaning the surface with soap and water periodically is usually sufficient to keep it looking its best, saving you time and money on maintenance costs over the lifespan of the deck.
Installation Considerations
Composite decking can be heavier and denser than wood decking. Your existing joist spacing may not work with composite decking. Any variations (dips, crown, sags, etc.) in your deck framing will telegraph through composite decking. We always install flashing tape over your existing framing to preserve it before we install any new decking, but many decks are just too worn out to re-deck.
Overall, replacing wood decking with composite decking offers numerous benefits in terms of durability, low maintenance, aesthetics, and environmental sustainability, but it’s essential to have us evaluate the condition of your existing deck framing before investing in this upgrade.
